Dalyan
When you cross the canal, there's a farm.
When you open the map and see Caunos Horses, people are sometimes surprised. It’s not a garden in the middle of Dalyan. The horses are on the Çandır side of the canal. You look at the village, you’re on the other side of the water. At first glance, it seems far away. It’s not.
Don’t think of it as going to another district. The canal is a narrow waterway, about sixty metres wide. On one shore is the village of Dalyan, on the other the village of Çandır. You cross over by boat or by the bridge that is open at that time, then take a short walk – about three hundred metres. Because the tracks, the lake shore and the hot spring are all on this side, the horses are also here. The boat sails on the water, the horses ride on land; the two are two sides of the same delta.
The crossing itself is really just a small scene of the day. The water flows slowly, with reeds on either side, and sometimes a boat passes by. As you step onto the opposite bank, the sound of the river drops a little. The village road, a few houses, then the farm. Getting down to the canal from the hotel or villa, crossing over, and arriving here takes about fifteen to twenty minutes most days. There’s no need to rush; finishing breakfast and heading out is a rhythm in itself.
If you have your own vehicle, just write “Caunos Horses” in the navigation system, and the last step is the same. If this is your first time crossing or if you don’t have a car, write to us and we’ll draw up a plan together. There’s also talk of transfers; don’t give up just because “we can’t figure it out on our own.” Most people memorize the route after crossing it once.
In our view, it is better to think of the crossing not as a separate “programme item”, but as the natural beginning of the day. You cross over and the horses are there. On the way back, the town is lit up again and dinner is on the same side. Two shores, one holiday.
