Kaunos

Na Kaunos naar de paarden

After walking around Kaunos, it’s not far to get on the horses. Climbing the theatre stairs and then walking two hours to the lake can be quite exhausting; the stones, the sun, and then the horses. Your legs are tired, the water is low, and your hat is soaked. That day the ride is hard, the next day the lake seems more pleasant. “Since we’re here, let’s do both,” is the understandable response — but that enthusiasm fades a bit on the field.

See the tombs in the morning, the necropolis in the afternoon, another day at the beach — or the necropolis in the morning, a short walk in the afternoon. Both are part of the same stretch of Çandır beach. For history, the Kaunos script, for the calendar, three days. The opening hours and tickets are the necropolis' own business; the entrance to the farm is separate, a short walk.

In our opinion, cover the heat with a shade and some water, and then decide. If you still can't make up your mind, take a short walk. If you're tired, come back the next morning. The horses are there, they're not going anywhere. That "right now" rush is the least appropriate thing about this place.
