Hot spring on horseback

When people think of a spa in Dalyan, they usually imagine the Sultaniye, where boats take visitors to the hot springs, mud, and crowds on a hot afternoon. It’s a beautiful day, a story unto itself. But there’s another, quieter path. At Caunos Horses, a spa tour takes you on horseback to an unmaintained spring.

It takes about an hour and a half, and the distance is two and a half kilometers. Half an hour to go, swim at the source, and return. There is no cabin or ticket office. You buy a swimsuit, take a shower when you return to the hotel. For those who plan to eat in the evening, this tour is comfortable. Those who want a longer day combine it with the lake, which takes about three hours. The pace is again according to the group; we don’t rush to “finish quickly.”

You have to keep the two spas separate, they are both beautiful, but different. Sultaniye is the boat, the resort, the mud, the unique smell, the people. Ours is the horse, the path, the calm water. It’s a bit of a rush to fit both into the same day — sun, skin, then water again. For us, one day is the boat and Sultaniye, another day is the horse in Çandır. Don’t cram them both into the same afternoon.
